So you’re saying that these party-lists groups are not all communists?
Yep. Especially these days, since there are also some groups established by some political families masquerading as representatives of the marginzalized sectors. The party-list system was supposed to be a venue where neglected sectors can be heard. But nowadays, even Mikey Arroyo has said that he might represent a party-list group after the May elections. What marginalized sector does he belong to? What makes him feel that he belongs to the marginalized? He’s the son of the current President. The future presence of people like him in the party-list groups after the May elections will be a mockery of the system provided by the Constitution for people who have been oftentimes ignored, forgotten, and abused by the administration of his mother. Truly, power makes people dumb!

Villar has a subdivision in Pavia, Iloilo called “Savannah.” Some 12.7 hectares of Savannah were first-class irrigated rice lands which Villar’s company converted into residential land. The CARP law prohibits the conversion of irrigated rice lands to other uses, the reason being to safeguard food production. However, Villar’s company was able to make the Department of Agrarian Reform issue a conversion order.
What we see is a pattern under which Villar’s subdivisions benefited from undue advantage allegedly because of influence peddling in government.
It already feels like summer here in Quezon City. Experts say this El Nino will last for a few more months into the next half of the year. It was not like this before. Last year, February was so cold I had to wear a jacket when I go out of the office to buy food for lunch. These days I have to use a krama to cover my head and neck from the sun if I go out of the office. And when you do get under a shaded area after walking under the sun, you head feels like your brain just dried up.
This is what climate change is all about. Climate advocate and presidential candidate Nick Perlas said a couple of weeks ago at a forum “There will be severe droughts and severe floods. There will be no more of the ones in between.” I just hope the country is prepared when the severe floods part comes later in the year. Should Gibo win, we would see a repeat of what happened in Ondoy, and we will have no one else to depend on but ourselves, again.
If in the 80s, there was the Boycott Movement against Marcos. This time, there is a DON’T VOTE CAMPAIGN. True, the right to suffrage is a constitutional right, entrusted to every citizen who has reached the age of majority. But it is a right. That means that the people who are entrusted that right have the choice to exercise it or not. For more information, click the link.
Iran’s telecommunications agency announced what it described as a permanent suspension of Google Inc.’s email services, saying instead that a national email service for Iranian citizens would soon be rolled out. It wasn’t clear late Wednesday what effect the order had on Google’s email services in Iran.
Google didn’t have an immediate comment about the announcement.
