Hunger Hot Spots

I Storified the exchange I had with @iwriteasiwrite regarding a question posed by @bluejackal regarding Rappler.

It is interesting to note that my addendum to @iwriteasiwrite’s thoughts on Rappler was an expression of frustration on why they are also moving in the same direction as the established media organizations in terms of news evaluation and presentation of content on their website. We did not discuss coverage.

I do think that Rappler should not be compared with the more established networks, particularly those in TV. They are a news organization composed mainly of broadcast journalists, yes. But how they pursue about their jobs now is very different from what they used to do when they were still in the broadcast media.

What the men and women behind this new frontier of journalism are doing is actually blazing a new trail. One where journalism is not merely based on the evaluation of the newsroom but also on the reactions from different stakeholders. A kind of journalism which does not necessarily join the scoop bandwagon but one which tries to look for angles sometimes missed or forgotten.

I do hope the people at Rappler get to reach the destination they’ve planned for themselves. But if in case this experiment in journalism (Their site says Beta) does not work out, they should not be embarrassed to say that they had one helluva trip.
