Press Freedom Index 2011-2012
Finland takes the top spot for press freedom. Canada is #10, UK is #28, and the US is #47. The worst 5 countries are pictured above.
See the full report here.
And the Philippines ranks 140 out of 179. Not bad. But still something to work on. Of course, the ranking will only go up when journalists in the country feel much more safer than how they do now.
I think the environment for journalists would also greatly improve if those behind journalist killings would be caught, charged and convicted. Until a case is resolved and seen by the public, those in power and even those who feel they have power, will have no qualms in killing journalists in this country.

Canada may be ranked #10, but ever since the Conservative majority election result in May, there’s been no press freedom or governmental transparency of any kind. Not that it compares to Eritrea or anything, but still, we don’t deserve that ranking.
