juanrepublic asked: I enjoy reading your 'Thoughts on Impeachment' post. I can actually relate to the first part of your article. Most of the Law Students I know are supporters of the CJ. And whenever I try to argue my point with them about the 'reform' on SC, they will instantly 'block' me with the stuff that they learned from Law School. Haha! I agree on the part that 'the spirit of the law ' is more important than its letter. May this trial produce a 'moral' aftermath. Keep 'em coming Sir! Padayon!
Thanks John! Yes, I too have noticed that several law students seem to choose the side of the impeached Chief Justice. Strange that they should considering that just a couple of years ago, some of them protested against the man’s “midnight appointment.”
I think that’s the problem with some members of the legal profession (or its wannabe members), they look at the impeachment merely from the legal perspective. It is actually more than that.
An impeachment process, to my understanding, is also much about the people, through their representatives, gauging a high ranking official’s capability of discharging the powers of his office, as it is about that official breaking the law. If that official is viewed as unfit to hold and act for such an office, then he should be removed by the duly-elected representatives of the people.
