The population census and other household surveys revealed an increasing trend in the percentage of female-headed households: 10.0 percent in 1970; 11.3 percent in 1990; 12.2 percent in 1995; 13.5 percent in 2000; 15.4 percent in 2003; 16.6 in 2008, and 21.2 percent in 2009.
